Travel Tips

Summer has finally begun, which means no more school and plenty of sunny days ahead! A lot of us utilize this time to go on vacation to our favorite beaches or to explore new places.

Travel is exciting, but it also requires planning and preparation. We want you to feel empowered to handle any situation that may arise!

Here are a couple of things to remember before you squeeze that last item in your suitcase:

  1. Pack a portable charger. Phones always seem to die faster when you are on vacation. Having a portable charger ensures that you can always use your phone in the case of an emergency.

  2. Know your surroundings. It’s okay to pull up the Maps app to get from one place to another, but notice the names of the streets you are on and the people around you.

  3. Wear sunscreen. No one likes being burnt, and your future self will thank you for applying sunscreen.

  4. Utilize the safe in your hotel room. Don’t leave your valuables laying around, and don’t carry all of your cash on you. Lock it up so it stays safe and you know where it is.

  5. Have an emergency contact. Know the phone number of the local law enforcement. Make sure your loved ones know where you are and can pick up a call.

  6. Don’t overpack. I promise that you are not going to need ten different pairs of shirts for a five day trip. Leave some room in your suitcase for things you buy on the trip.

  7. Ask for recommendations. Who knows the best spot to eat? The locals. Don’t be afraid to ask someone for help or tips; they are more likely to help you than harm you. Online recommendations are good as well; if you are someone who likes to plan ahead.

  8. Make sure that, if you carry a purse, it can be closed securely. Try to have your bag rest on the front of your body, and be sure that it is closed properly. Better to be safe than to be sorry.

  9. Be confident in yourself. This is your trip! You know the plans you made, where you need to be. Have confidence that it will all work out.

  10. Be prepared for contingencies. When things goes awry, breathe. You may experience travel delays or a frustrating cancellation. Be patient and embrace it as a part of the experience.

Enjoy the trip. No trip is ever going to be perfect, so don’t let the small stuff ruin the whole vacation for you.
